Intro:

  • What’s up everybody, Jordan here, I’m back for another video!

  • In today’s video, I’ll be sharing my thoughts on fanny packs for EDC, pros and cons, and how I use them, and then I’ll show y’all some different fanny packs that I own, and how I would set them up, and what scenarios they would work best for.

  • Let’s get started.

Pros and Cons of Fanny Packs:

Pros:

1. Convenience: Fanny packs offer easy access to your belongings without the need to remove the bag from your shoulder or back.

2. Compact Size: They are generally smaller and more streamlined than backpacks, making them less bulky and easier to navigate through crowded spaces.

3. Hands-Free: Fanny packs allow you to keep your hands free, making them ideal for activities like hiking, walking, or running errands.

4. Fashionable: Fanny packs have made a comeback in fashion, and there are a variety of stylish options available to suit different tastes.

5. Versatility: Fanny packs can be worn around the waist or across the chest, providing flexibility in how you carry them.

6. Lightweight: Being smaller in size, fanny packs are often lighter than larger bags, which can be advantageous for those who prefer to travel light.

7. Organization-Many fanny packs have multiple compartments, helping you keep your belongings organized and easily accessible.

8. Security-Wearing a fanny pack in front allows you to keep a closer eye on your belongings, reducing the risk of theft.

9. Travel-Friendly-Fanny packs are convenient for travel, as they can easily hold essentials like passports, tickets, and small items you need quick access to. They also work well for concerts and live events, because most live events/concerts don’t allow backpacks or even small drawstring bags, but fanny packs are much more commonly accepted. Double check before you go to an event that they allow fanny packs.

10. Affordability- Fanny packs are often more budget-friendly compared to larger bags, making them a cost-effective choice.

Cons:

1. Limited Capacity-Fanny packs have a smaller capacity compared to backpacks, limiting the amount of items you can carry.

2. Style Perception-While they have become more fashionable, some people still perceive fanny packs as outdated or unstylish.

3. Not Ideal for Heavy Loads-Fanny packs are not suitable for carrying heavy or bulky items, as they may cause discomfort or strain.

4. Limited Use in Formal Settings- Fanny packs might not be appropriate for formal or business settings, where a more traditional bag may be expected.

5. Security Concerns- Wearing a fanny pack in certain locations may make you more vulnerable to pickpocketing, as the bag is easily accessible.

6. Weather Sensitivity- Fanny packs are typically not as weather-resistant as backpacks, and their contents may be more exposed to the elements.

7. Limited Personalization/Customization- Compared to larger bags, fanny packs may offer fewer options for personalization or customization.

8. Not Ideal for Tech Gear-If you need to carry a laptop, tablet, or other larger tech devices, a fanny pack may not be the best choice.

9. May Interfere with Clothing- Depending on the clothing you're wearing, a fanny pack may not sit comfortably or securely around your waist.

10. Fashion Trend Variability-While they are currently in style, the popularity of fanny packs may vary over time, potentially making them less fashionable in the future.

How I use Fanny Packs:

  • My primary use case for fanny packs is during live events (WWE/AEW events, concerts), because they’re allowed at the venues I typically go to, and they hold everything I need for these kinds of events.

  • When I go to a live event, I always have my wallet, a portable charger, some wireless earbuds (my Jabra Elite 8 Actives or AirPods Pro 1st Gen), one or two phone charging cables, depending on the portable charger I have with me, my car keys, and a small plastic bag that I can use if I buy merch at the event I’m attending. Until now, I used this Carhartt fanny pack, but I’ve been testing out some other options, including my Fieldcraft Survival fanny pack, and then these green and black tactical fanny packs, as well as this massive camouflage fanny pack from Bass Pro Shop,  for future live events that I attend this year.

  • Having a fanny pack in a big city like Toronto, Dallas, Atlanta, etc is also handy for keeping everything secure, and close to me, because I can generally tuck my fanny pack under my sweater or jacket to keep it hidden when I’m heading to or from whatever event I’m going to.

  • Over the last little while, I’ve also been testing these tactical fanny packs, during work, so that I can hold my phones, my keys, my AirPods Pro or Jabra Elite 8 earbuds, a couple pens, this MagSafe Belkin Portable charger, a USB C to Lightning Cable, a USB C to USB C charging cable, and a knife.

  • Before I bought these tactical fanny packs, I was using a phone holster and my mini bug out bag from EDC Beard co to hold all my stuff, and decided that using a fanny pack would be more efficient, then my previous setup.

  • Next, I’ll explain how I setup these fanny packs for different scenarios.
